How Homeopathy Works.
Homeopathic remedies are selected to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms. Homeopaths believe that the mind and the body operate together and that you cannot treat one part of the body without affecting the whole.
A conventional medical prescription aims to remove the problem the patient is experiencing, usually using an anti-drug (antibiotics, anti-depressants, anti-inflammatories, anti-virals), taking little account of the patient as an individual. A homeopathic prescription, tailored to the individual's needs, causes a reaction in the patient; this reaction stimulates the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Homeopathy works on the principle of “like cures like”. This means that a substance that can cause a disease can also cure it. For example, coffee (coffea in Latin) is a substance that can cause temporary insomnia; the homeopathic remedy Coffea can help to relieve insomnia. The plant Belladonna, if taken accidentally in high doses can cause fever and delirium; in homeopathic form Belladonna will help to quickly and safely bring down a high fever.
Homeopathic remedies promote the body’s natural ability to heal, and when prescribed appropriately they are non-toxic and non-addictive. They can be taken alongside drugs prescribed by your doctor and will not interfere with their action. |
